New Series: Our Kitchen Kit

We’re backkkkk!

Yes, we checked out for a nice minute.

We will admit it.

Between all of life’s hassles, from Rachel working at GOOGLE ( I am allowed to brag for you R:), to doing some podcasting of my own and more, we took a small break.

But we are back and b”h better than ever!

Rosh Hashanah is only a few weeks away (yikes) but we have already started to think of easy and delicious recipes. Before we get to those (stay tuned for the coming weeks) we are launching our new series called “Our Kitchen Kit”! Where we choose one of our favorite food/drink/trend/product and give our take on it. We dish our do’s and don’ts and what we love about that particular item.

We are starting the series with the best.

Who’s been there for us through thick and thin.

Pretty much our 3rd partner in OPOP.

Ladies & Gents we introduce to you Our Kitchen Kit: Coffee Edition 🙂

Let’s just get this out of the way….Decaf is not a thing.

Thanks. Now that we established that, let’s start with the coffee itself.

Instant Coffee- Yay or Nay?

D: Rachel and I have different views on Instant coffee. I personally like it and totally don’t mind it. Does it have the most elaborate taste and flavor? no

Would I serve it to my bougie neighbors? no (well maybe….. how would they know?)

But there are some good ones out there that kind of make you forget your drinking instant, that you got to try.

These 2 are my fave:

  • Davidoff Cafe Rich Aroma Instant Coffee
  • Giraldo Farms Colombian Coffee Instant Freeze Dried
Whipped Coffee (Dalgona Coffee) made from Instant coffee- so good

R: Ok hear me out – instant coffee is terrible and people who say they like it are just pretending. There are so many alternatives that are worlds better. Instant is so bitter and definitely not a balanced flavorful experience. The only reason I will drink instant coffee is if it’s baked into a cake. If you want a coffee you can make on Shabbos that is not instant try these:

  • Gaia Coffee Blue Velvet Brew Bags
  • Folgers Coffee Singles Classic Roast Coffee Bags

Flavored vs. Unflavored Coffee

D: Not into flavored coffees so much. Yes, if I were at a cafe and wanted to try some funky flavors I totally would. Otherwise not so much. I feel sometimes it can take away from the yummy coffee flavor itself.

R: I am all about those fun flavors! I have a Keurig machine and one of the things I love about it is the fact that I can buy single servings of different coffee flavors to try. Some of my favorites are Caramel Macchiato, French Vanilla, and Peppermint Bark

What kind of milk to use?- Oat vs. Whole Dairy Milk

D: Dairy milk all the way!! Nowadays everyone is into using alternative kinds of milk whether it’s for health reasons or just for flavor. I am a strong believer that if you can, dairy milk is the best and tastiest choice for coffee. None of that almond water, sorry meant “milk” business. Certain kinds of milk are just creamier and give off a better consistency especially with frothing, which brings us to our next point.

R: So, I am allergic to dairy. No, not lactose intolerant. Allergic. So I can’t have dairy milk but I actually love almond milk in my coffee, especially the Almond Breeze Unsweetened Chocolate Almond Milk. However, if I want to froth my milk then almond milk won’t do and I opt for oat milk specifically Oatly Oat Milk – but not the barista edition. I find the structure of the foam too much in the barista edition but the regular Oatly Oat Milk is the best for frothing.

To froth or not to froth is the question

D: Uhhh yes! Froth all the way! Capresso Pro is my go-to ultimate frother. If you are serious about frothing your milk like I am, this is a solid purchase. It’s not too expensive, and I love how it comes with 3 different temperature buttons. You can warm or heat the milk while frothing, or keep things cool for your iced coffees 🙂

That foam tho

R: I love a good froth on my coffee but I don’t think it is 100% necessary. That being said I love my Miroco Electric Stainless Steel Milk Steamer and Frother. It has functions for steaming, hot foam, cold foam, and even hot chocolate! It is nice and quiet and gives you hot frothed milk in 2 minutes!

Foamed Oat Milk

Hot vs. Iced

D: Saved the best for last:) Rachel, I don’t even know why this is a discussion.

ICED. ICED. ICED. all the way. Whoever knows me, knows I always have an iced drink on hand. It can be 0 degrees outside, and you can find me sipping on an iced coffee. With extra ice. Yup. It’s just so refreshing.

R: Ok, so I love a good iced coffee. But, I will always and forever enjoy a cup of hot coffee first thing in the morning. There is something about breathing in the steam from a hot cup of coffee and letting the aroma fill your nose. Doesn’t matter the weather it’s hot coffee first and then iced coffee for the rest of the day.
