This recipe is a tribute to the classic cheesecake flavor. Some tangy cream cheese, sugar, lemon zest, and a home cook’s best friend- Puff Pastry.
8 oz cream cheese block ( we used Philadelphia)
1 cup sour cream
1/2–1/2 cup sweetener/white sugar*
Lemon zest from 1 small lemon
1 tbsp. vanilla extract
1 egg, beaten
Puff pastry (we used 4.5 dough squares)
egg wash
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Whip together cream cheese and sour cream. *Then add the rest of the ingredients.
Lay out puff pastry squares (or any shape you have) and in the center of dough place a heaping spoonful of cheese mixture. Take 2 opposite corners, and lay one side over the other. Placed on a lined baking sheet, and brush with egg wash.
*Bake for 35- 40 minutes until golden brown.
*Depending on how sweet you like it add from 1/3 – 1/2 cup of sweetener or sugar. Add the egg last to the mixture, that way you can taste and adjust the sweetness.
* Every oven is different, so keep an eye on the pastries.
