Thanksgiving In A Boureka with Gravy Sauce

Happy Thanksgiving! or as we also like to call it Happy Friendsgiving:)

It’s that time of year again, where everyone cooks up a big turkey, some mashed potatoes, a delicious stuffing, and of course the gravy. It’s also that time of year where loads of leftovers make their appearance, and your not sure whether to eat some more (even though your stuffed), throw it out (not happening) or secretly give it to the dog (what dog?…).

Have no fear! We’ve got the solution for you right here!

  1. Yes that did rhyme
  2. The best way to “get rid” of leftovers is to repurpose them into a whole ‘nother meal.

Repurposing is great because there is no waste, but also you get to create new dinners in matter of minutes because all the main components are already basically cooked. We thought what better way to do that, than stuffing not a turkey but a boureka! Bourekas are a crispy and delicious dough that can be filled with almost anything .We stuffed it with whatever leftovers we had. We are talking some turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and more! You can choose all or decide which ones you want to create the filling with. It is really up to you. The beauty of this recipe is that it’s not really a recipe (besides for the gravy). They bake in about 20 minutes and viola! Top with our smooth gravy sauce and pair along side a salad, and you’ve got a tasty new dish!

We are grateful and thankful for our OPOP family, and we cannot thank you all enough for being part of our food journey.

XOXO

Thanksgiving In A Boureka with Gravy Sauce

  • Author: Devorah Kahan
  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

Bourekas:

Puff Pastry square sheets

Fillings of your choice: leftover turkey (shredded), mashed potatoes, stuffing etc

Gravy Sauce:

3 tbsp Non dairy butter

3 Garlic cloves, minced

3 tbsp Flour

1 1/2 cups of Chicken broth

1 1/2 cups Beef broth

1/2 tsp Dried Thyme

* 1/2 tsp Trader Joes “Everything but the leftovers” Seasoning

Dash of pepper

Instructions

Preheat oven 375 degrees

Fill the bourekas and place on lined baking sheet. Brush with some egg wash and this is optional but sprinkle with some sesame and poppy seeds.

Bake for around 20-25 minutes. Bourekas should be nice and golden

Gravy Sauce:

On medium heat, melt the butter and add in the garlic. Sautee for  about a minute, until garlic is fragrant (we don’t want to brown it!) Then add the flour and cook for another 1-2 minutes, making sure there are no lumps.

Whisk in both broths and the rest of the seasonings. Turn up the flame a bit and continue to whisk. The sauce will start to thicken. This will take about a few minutes. Once you can coat lightly the back of a spoon, it’s ready.

Notes

*if you don’t have the trader joes seasoning feel free to leave it out. The following herbs are in it, so if you have any of them you can put in a dash of each.

Dehydrated onion, sea salt, yeast extract, salt, ground black pepper, dried yeast, turmeric powder, natural flavor, dried celery seed, ground sage, rosemary powder, dried thyme, dried parsley.
