Vegan Falafel Battered Onion Rings

5 from 1 reviews

As celebrity chef Anne Burrell says all the time “Brown food tastes good!” That crisp and crunch of biting into succulent and savory fried foods, like onion rings, can not be beaten in my humble opinion.

Ingredients

Scale

Batter

1.5 Cups Chickpea Flour

12 oz. can of Beer

1 Tbsp. Dried Cilantro

1 Tbsp. Dried Parsley

1 Tsp. Garlic Powder

1 Tsp. Cumin

2 Tsp. Salt

23 medium Onions

Oil for frying

Instructions

  • Slice onions into thick rings and separate all the layers
  • In a frying pan heat 2 inches of oil over a medium flame
  • Combine all of the batter ingredients in a medium-size bowl
  • Place the onion rings into the batter and mix gently to coat taking care not to break the rings
  • When the oil is hot and bubbly drop the rings one at a time into the oil, do not overcrowd the pan or they will all stick together
  • Fry for 1-2 mins on each side or until golden brown
  • Remove from oil with a slotted spoon or tongs and place on a paper towel to absorb excess oil
  • Sprinkle with extra salt if desired
  • Serve fresh and hot
